Velour Harems and Leather Jacket: The Perfect Love Affair

Ordered these harem's on an impulse with the leather jacket and haven't regretted it once. Comfy, yet unique, yes Hannah Montana, you can get the best of both worlds.

Leather or Denim?

Ah, the never ending internal argument. Therefore, considering the negative degree temperatures outside, I decided to wear each for one day and decide which one would keep me the warmest. You know those new coats they're making now? The ones where they try to make it look like there's a sweatshirt underneath a leather or denim jacket but we all know the deceitfulness of the article of clothing. Due to the temperatures I truly did layer a sweatshirt underneath each jacket and not a lick of wind was able to penetrate. Loved the styles of each, they both give off a very unique vibe.  Therefore, they gave me the easy task of whipping on the same outfit two days in a row (atrocious I know but with -3 degree weather and 6am wake up call couldn't even begin to contemplate two separate outfits properly). And finally, the Keep Sneakers. Vegan Leather + Vegan shoes = Vegan squared (and I passed by a woman wearing a head to toe fur coat today and got to judge her ensemble without a fault in cruelty to my own outfit).

Cara Delevingne's Biker Jacket Real and Budget

I fell in love with Cara Delevingne's biker coat but wasn't quite ready to shell out the $2,000 right after Christmas. Luckily after searching high and low I found a nicer price for a leather jacket that I happily purchased at Urban Outfitters. But don't let out your sigh yet Burberry, I'm still coming for you soon!

How To Wear Harem Pants

Ah, a subject that plagued my thoughts for months when I got my first pair. I hid them in my closet out of shame after I showed one of my closest friends and she said, and I quote, "oh like Justin Bieber pants why would you wear those?". Ouch. Regardless I wore them around the house until I figured out how to wear them and a) not make me look like a Justin Bieber wannabe and b) look like I had some sense of style. These were my first "harem" pants Earlier Blog Post which I ended up wearing out to face humanity in a similar fashion but sans the headband and bag and I added a short moto leather coat over top. To me this seemed a little daring but hey, it worked!
I wanted a second pair of harems and found the perfect black staple harem pants at Theory.  In turn I found close to exact replicas at Nordstroms, Forever21, H&M, and American Eagle (links, if available, below). Just add a classic circle scarf in a bold color, white or black shirt (depending on your color harem's) and some boots for winter (doc martens always give a bit of an edge to an outfit). I ended up buying the ones from Theory just because I was planning on making these harem's my new best friends for a while. And we lived happily ever after. (Just kidding I've been cheating on him with a couple other harem's)
More pictures to come but links below! (Please excuse the bad quality pictures for Today my Nikon is getting a new lens, need to be more careful when I travel with him :/ )

Fashion Crush of the Week Cara Delevingne

I thought we'd start out with someone everybody knows as well as someone I personally idolize. Because, let's be honest, who doesn't love the wacky Cara Dele? Cara's style is very laid back but it also changes very frequently yet she has that one staple, her Burberry leather jacket that keeps it all together. Find Cara's style at places like Zara, Topshop, H&M, Dimepiece, Pacsun, and Trapstar!

Best Clothing Sales Online

Coming from a background with frugal parents yet with a clothing obsession I spent decades searching online for the best deals. Online stores seem to have better sales than actual store locations. I compiled a list of stores with current sales going on.
  • Zara
  • Madewell
  • Jcrew (try the Jcrew outlet as well)
  • Nordstroms (Great sales twice a year on multiple designers)
  • Forever 21 (best for passing trends you only want to invest a small amount of dough in)
  • Tobi.com (Best party dresses ever)
  • Aldo (love. shoes.)
  • DSW online (try their luxe department for designers)
More to come soon!

Hippie or Boho Chic?

Pants. They're so comfortable yet they make a huge statement. That's one of my favorite things to do though. I like to find one piece to put into an outfit that takes it one step further.  Playing it safe can get quite dull.
More daring outfits to come.

Daily Audrey Hepburnesque Inspiration

(yes auto correct i know hepburnesque isn't a real word... yet) You know that one accessory that you tend to put with everything and you only stop when someone asks "didn't you wear that yesterday? And the day before... and the day before..." well... that's me with the black floppy hat that I'm sure you're familiar with by now. I consciously told myself to put on the black waffle knit head wrap from Urban Outfitters (link below) and I had barely made it out the door before I ran back inside for floppy (that's going to be his nickname from now on, as I'm sure he'll make a return to the blog soon).  So, take my advice, invest in a black floppy hat, Chanel, Target, Nordstroms, Forever 21, wherever! Make it your own.  I found an old necklace and connected it to the top of mine.  It adds a unique touch and makes you feel like hanging out in front of Tiffanys, eating a croissant and drinking coffee with Audrey Hepburn.  Promise.
But on to the rest of the outfit. It was one of those all black and red lipstick days.  I'm sure you can relate. The black moto vest blends effortlessly with the black long sleeve American Apparel Long Sleeve Tee (worn at least once a week, yes, sometimes twice).  If you haven't guessed already, my go to shoes are Steve Madden.  These black wedges are honestly the easiest things to walk in, I feel like I look like a penguin normally when wearing heels but these are just the right height and fit to be comfortable and chic and not make you walk like an arctic bird.

The 2014 Alternative Midi Skirt

What happens when your leather mini-skirt and beloved maxi skirt are alone in your closet for too long?
The midi skirt!
I first came across this trend a couple months ago in Elle magazine.  It was then reinforced yesterday when I was reading my standard plane magazines: Vogue, Elle, Instyle, and Allure. It seems like the fashion world has seen the last of the mini skirts and maxi skirts. I guess we can all agree we were in the mood for something new anyway. What puzzled me most however, was how to wear this particular trend. You can wear mini's with tights and maxi's can easily stand alone (isn't that there point anyway?). It seemed like the midi was that child in the awkward in-between stage (tween?).  SO WRONG. When worn properly the midi falls into both category's. It can be accessorized or stand alone (I personally favor the plain Jane look. But, yes of course we can put a scarf with it stop insisting).   It can take you back in time (50's? with a dash of 90's?), or distinguish you as one who follows current trends.  And quite honestly, they seem much preferable to constantly pulling down your mini or tripping over your maxi. My personal favorite is the first picture posted, the contrast of the black and white remain simple but make a statement, dress it up with some gold jewlery and you'd be set to meet Queen Latifah.

Vintage At Its Cheapest

Return of the Chanel hat. Can't seem to manage to stay away. Along with these vintage shoes, 50 cents at a thrift store in New Mexico. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis would be proud. And again with another pair of my Uniqlo jeans and American Apparel shirt.  I'm surprised this is the first outfit I'm posting with a scarf because I normally have to consciously restrain myself from putting one on every morning. And finally my corduroy long coat that makes me feel like a true Londoner (vintage again from a store in Brooklyn) (You also have no idea how long it took me to figure out how to spell corduroy, google may have been involved). Savior Ol' Black Floppy Hat

I actually wore this outfit to the nutcracker a couple weekends ago when I was deathly ill (obligatory theater chandelier picture included).  But, this outfit kept me comfortable yet still feeling chic enough to face humanity. My dad told me if I coughed once during the show he would throw me out.. so... between each act, when everyone was clapping, I coughed up my heart under the safe cover of the enthusiastic applause and the ol' Chanel black floppy hat that I attached a necklace around to shine it up a bit.  About the outfit, the black maxi skirt is almost as important to me as pizza. ALMOST. Along with the bat-wing sweater and a white shirt and a sparkle of jewelry you too might be able to face the world while carrying the plague.

Casual Fashion @ Chai Camille

Got back from the airport last night at 1:30am. Exhausted. But here's to my first outfit post! Unfortunately I can't link all of these pieces because I got half of them at a huge sale at madewell and J Crew.  These Steve Madden Oxfords can be worn with almost anything though and you don't even have to put in effort to tie the laces.  Best. Investment. Ever. Besides these jeans I have in almost every wash from Uniqlo.  Enjoy!
